A bipartisan group of senators sent a letter to the heads of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and U.S. Cyber Command on Apr. 20 asking them to take more measures to prevent cyberattacks against the American healthcare sector. In recent weeks, Russian, Chinese, Iranian and North Korean hacking operations have targeted hospitals and other health institutions using the coronavirus as a lure, according to the senators. The group urged CISA and Cyber Command to provide cyber threat intelligence information and threat assessments to partners in the healthcare sector as well as to the National Guard Bureau. Sens. Blumenthal, Cotton, Warner, Perdue and Markey also told Christopher Krebs, the Director of CISA, and General Paul Nakasone, the Commander of U.S. Cyber Command, to consider issuing public statements regarding hacking operations and disinformation related to the coronavirus.
